Hydraulic bow thrusters are the natural choice when extensive thruster usage or long run cycles are required. We design our hydraulic systems with the style needed for Inland Waterways use, pleasure craft and sea-going vessels with the reliability necessary for commercial use.
For many vessels, a hydraulic system offers an economic advantage because of the possibility to run several systems on-board from a centralized hydraulic power source.
Our standard range of hydraulic bow thrusters provide equal thrust in both directions, allowing between 40 to 1400 Kgf of thrust.
The Archimedes:
ARS’ own manufactured hydraulic bow thruster, the Archimedes, is capable of up to 140 Kgf thrust and is unique in its shape and design. The unique design gives many advantages, as it helps push the boat slightly backwards as well as sideways, this aids the manoeuvrability of the boat.
The distinct design allows the bow thruster to be installed at any angle in the boat. However, for best performance it should be installed laying down with the legs facing forward, as low as possible and the impeller must be flooded at all times.

ARS offer a single push button panel, single joystick or a boat switch panel. Additionally, in cases where a stern thruster is required, we can also offer double joystick panels and dual locking panels. All Side-Power bow thrusters and stern thrusters are equipped with the patented Intelligent Power Control (IPC) safety function.
